There are many reasons to play golf, regardless of how athletic you aren’t.
I do it and millions of others do it, regardless of their physical capabilities.
Have you ever wondered why some people can sit back and watch golf all day?
I am well past my prime at 39 years young, but I picked up the game just two years ago.
I am nowhere near a scratch golfer, but I absolutely love everything about golf.
It’s something I wish I had picked up when I was a lot younger, but I was more attracted to the more popular American sports.
I played lots of football, and basketball, and took a swing at some baseball.
I did have a 7 iron when I was around eight years old, and I used it to whack at some rocks, to replace the golf balls I didn’t have.
There isn’t much to regret as I still love those sports, but the passion I have for the game of golf has gone way beyond what I expected.
With that newfound interest I have, I want to share why I think you should play golf too.
Here Are The Reasons to Play Golf – Especially Now
I am no professional when it comes to golf and out of those millions who play the sport will tell you the same.
Although we can’t give you the best advice, you can know that we are all on the course of trying to improve every aspect of the game, and of course, our overall score.
Besides all that, there is still a lot to love about this sport and more reasons to play golf now.
Let me give you more reasons why this game with a small ball and a bunch of sticks is one of the best things to get into this year.
Although there are other things you should know about golf, these are the more important things.
1. Golf is Complicated
Ask any professional athlete that plays golf on the side, which sport is harder and they will most likely tell you that it’s golf.
Michael Jordan, the best basketball player to ever play the game, will tell you that golf is the hardest sport in the world.
Many other football players, boxers, baseball players, and other professional athletes think golf is one of the better additions to their lives.
I know it sounds bad when you hear about anything being complicated, but golf is different.
The complicatedness that comes with golf is what keeps everything interesting.
If it’s not one thing messing up your golf game, it’s something else.
There’s always room for improvement, undoing bad habits, and trying to master something as simple sounding as putting.
You’ll see what I mean, if, and when you decide to play golf.
2. Golf Can Be Relaxing
Here at Golfcurrent, we absolutely love the game of golf.
I do mention that it “can be” relaxing and that’s only because as I mentioned earlier, golf is complicated.
It can be as relaxing as a nice staycation, or it can be as stressful as you see with some people on TV.
MOST of the time the ball won’t do what you want it to do, but when it does, it’s as relaxing as sitting on a beach with a cold one in hand.
Don’t forget that you are there to enjoy the great outdoors, so take some time to pay attention to the beauty around you.
3. Golf is Super Fun
As a beginner, golf can seem like the hardest thing to do.
Once you start getting the hang of things, you will see that hitting even just one good shot is well worth the stress.
Things start to get fun and you can start focusing on improving different parts of your game.
What used to be a dreaded day at the course or driving range, turns into smiles and lots more fun.
4. Golf Courses are Beautiful
You can play a round of golf for $50 at some courses and to some, that’s a lot of money.
If you’ve never been to a golf course, you are missing out on some of the most beautiful places on the planet.
The way everything is designed makes for some visual pleasure and one that I think is well worth the $50 you will spend.
That’s not including the fact that you get to hit a small ball with a stick, all while trying to make it in a small hole in the ground.
You will appreciate the time and work put into maintaining a golf course and you will also see why they charge the prices they do.
5. Subconscious Exercise
Unless you’ve been on a nice routine for a few months minimum, it’s hard to find any enjoyment in exercise.
Not with golf.
Whether you like it or not, you have to get to your ball, hit it, and still walk back to wherever you came from.
Whether you use a cart or you plan on walking the course, they will give you some of the best exercises that you never planned on doing.
6. Golf Doesn’t Require You to be the Most Physical Specimen
Some people may think that you need to be some kind of beast to play golf, thanks to golfers like Bryson Dechambeau.
Well, that’s not the case and you will see that when you see the golfers in the PGA Tour Champions.
You’ll see guys in their 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s playing golf and still scoring better than most 21-year-olds.
Yup, golf can cater to any skill level and strength, so don’t let your lack of muscle deter you from playing golf.
7. Great Family Activity
There are tons of outdoor activities for kids, but finding a way to please the whole family can be a task.
One kid might love to play basketball, while the others want to do something else that fits more of their capabilities.
The same thing goes for football, tennis, and many other sports that aren’t soccer.
You need to be at a certain level of physical fitness and hand-eye coordination, or you simply can not participate.
That becomes a thing of the past if you do decide to get into golf.
8. Time With Friends
I play golf with my family and of course, I play golf with my friends.
We try to do it at least once a week, but of course, my wife won’t agree half the time.
Without golf though, I don’t think I would be spending as much time with my friends as I would like to.
We are all busy with our daily lives and hanging out has now become a thing we hardly do.
Leave it to golf though, to get us back to talking and hanging out.
9. Everyone is Willing to Teach You How to Play
In the world of golf, everyone is a teacher.
Whether they are a pro or they are new to the game, you can bet that they have a tip or two to give you.
It might not be the best advice, but you can expect to get all the free tips and tricks you want.
Some might make you worse, and some might actually help you, but at the very least, you won’t have a hard time finding someone to help you along the way.
10. Golf Has Cool Gear
I’m not a fan of “things”, but I have an interest in certain things.
I don’t care what kind of clothes I wear and I have some that are older than my kids.
It’s not that I can’t afford any, it’s just not something I’m into.
All that changed when golf came around and now, I like all the cool gear they have.
The best part about all that is the fact that everyone is into it and the resale value of these things is still really high.
If you think that pair of shoes you have is so awesome, wait until you start buying golf shoes.
Conclusion – There Are Many Reasons to Play Golf Now
I am still new to golf but I don’t think I will ever stop playing.
If Phil Mickelson can win a Major championship at the age of 50, why in the world would I quit golf because of old age?
I wouldn’t.
There are many reasons to play golf and these are just a few that I think are worth mentioning.
There is a lot to know and learn about this sport and the only way to do it is to get into it.
No more will I wonder why and how people can watch golf all day, as I too am doing the same thing.
But, don’t take my word for it.
Get out there, hit the range, and see how satisfying golf can really be.
Until next time, tee it high, and let it fly!
Absolutely resonate with this! 🏌️♂️ As a fellow latecomer to the world of golf, I’ve discovered a world of enjoyment and personal growth on the green. From the challenge of perfecting my swing to the camaraderie with friends, every round is a chance to learn, relax, and immerse in the beauty of the course. ⛳️🌳 And the cool gear doesn’t hurt either!
